Chapter 14

Ridley had chosen one of her nicer outfits for the meal, she didn’t think walking boots had the right vibe. The restaurant Ellie had booked was halfway between their two locations. As she pulled into the car park, she surveyed the impressive destination. See-through domes were scattered around the grounds; each had a mini heater to keep the occupants warm. She really hoped that they were going to be in one of them, as opposed to inside the brick building.

They had arrived before Ellie, so Adam spoke to the hostess and they were ushered towards one of the domes on the outskirts, much to Ridley’s delight. They ordered a couple of drinks and Ridley grinned, “Isn’t this place cool? These domes are amazing!”

She was enjoying the ambience of their private igloo and kept glancing towards the car park, trying to spot Ellie. Ridley smiled when she spotted an eccentric-looking woman wearing a giant, pink fluffy coat. On the bottom half, she wore pink and purple striped trousers. Ridley couldn’t see her top as the coat hid it but she assumed that it would be equally interesting.

The woman was directed to their dome and Ridley couldn’t believe it, this was Ellie. She sported a black and blue-tinted pixie cut. Ellie was grinning and rushed over when she spotted them, “Adam! I’ve missed you. How are you?” She then turned to Ridley and hugged her, “I’m so pleased to meet you Ridley, I’m Ellie.” Ellie flashed a conspiratorial grin, “I’ve brought someone with me.”

“Great. Is Jake with you?” Adam asked whilst trying to peer around Ellie, it was difficult as he was sitting and she was standing in front of him.

“Yes, and here he is now.” She moved out of the way and Ridley saw a man appear but it wasn’t him that had Adam standing.

“Max!” Adam exclaimed before opening his arms. A dark brown Labrador bounded over and rushed into his arms, tail wagging furiously. “I’ve missed you, boy.”

Ellie joined Ridley in the dome whilst Adam was reacquainted with Max, “Sorry, I didn’t get to finish my introductions. This is Jake, he’s my boyfriend.”

Ridley smiled warmly, “It’s so nice to meet you both. I have so many questions to ask you, if you don’t mind?”

“Of course not! I’d love to help in any way I can. I worked with Parker when she was developing her water abilities, as it’s one of my powers.” Ellie was excited to help.

“Yes, Adam said that you had an affinity with nature and water. My own powers seem to align with nature. I haven’t developed any others yet,” Ridley blurted out.

Ellie grinned with matched enthusiasm, “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to spend much time with you exploring your powers tonight but if you decide to return home with Adam at the end of your trip, I’d love to work with you. We could squeeze in an hour tonight before we return to our hotel?”

“That would be wonderful, thank you!” Ridley felt a wave of relief at Ellie’s offer of guidance.
